According to US military officials, the Trump administration has issued a hefty ultimatum to the ISIS fighters still clinging to their positions in the deserts of Iraq and Syria: Surrender, or face utter annihilation.
“ISIS needs to understand that the Joint Force is on orders to annihilate them,” Army Sgt. Maj. John Wayne Troxell, the senior enlisted adviser to the chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, announced in a Facebook post this week. “They have two options should they decide to come up against the United States, our allies and partners: Surrender or die!”
Should they decide to surrender, Troxell promises that the US and our allies will provide the radical Islamic militants with basic amenities and “will safeguard them to their detainee facility cell, provide them chow, a cot and due process.” Should they decide to turn down the generous offer of peace, however, “then we will kill them with extreme prejudice, whether that be through security force assistance, by dropping bombs on them, shooting them in the face, or beating them to death with our entrenching tools.”
ISIS needs to understand that the Joint Force is on orders to annihilate them. So, they have two options should they…
This is a major reversal from the policies of the Obama administration, which told reporters “We cannot win this war by killing them…We cannot kill our way out of this war.” These words, spoken by former State Department spokeswoman Marie Harf, were said during an interview with the Washington Examiner, where the ex-government mouthpiece added that “We need in the medium- to longer term to go after the root causes that lead people to join these groups, whether it’s lack of opportunity for jobs.”
Offering jobs to ISIS fighters, however, obviously didn’t work, and the group was able to expand rapidly under Obama’s watch, seizing vast portions of Iraq and Syria and creating a terror network that has claimed lives not just in the Middle East but across Europe and the United States as well. Under leaders like President Trump, James Mattis, and Sgt. Maj. Troxell, however, ISIS territory has been reduced by 95%, leaving them with nothing more than a few holdouts in relatively sparsely populated desert areas. And even these positions are soon to be wiped out, leaving the once feared Islamic Caliphate nothing more than a bad memory.
