In the first ten days of 2018, President Trump has done more for veterans of our armed forces than Obama ever did in eight years.
Our nations heroes have seen a monumental shift away from a former president who put them on FBI watch lists as domestic terrorists to a current leader who cherishes their selfless commitment to our collective security and strength.
The Washington Examiner reports that a bill signed last August went into effect this year and delivers “$2 billion to open new Veterans Affairs department medical facilities and fund care for veterans seeking medical care outside the government system on Saturday.”
The backlog of cases, some of them ending tragically, is well known. President Trump, ever the business-minded efficiency expert, proposed alleviating the bureaucratic-induced case pile up by proposing a free market solution and this has liberals scared.
George Walker was 75 when he died at home July 1, 2016 — days before he was scheduled for surgery at the VA Puget Sound Health Care System, and a little more than a week after doctors knew he needed the operation. https://t.co/Fp6gyTAvb2

Rick Weidman, legislative director of the Vietnam Veterans of America told the Examiner with no elaboration provided, “You ain’t seen nothing yet if you send people to the private sector.”
Indeed. We might see deaths…of bureaucratic jobs.
The law, which garnered unanimous support in the House of Representatives on the way to its passage, allows patients of the sclerotic Veterans Affairs health care system to seek medical care from private doctors in certain cases, while leasing out 28 VA facilities to private operators.
On January 9, the Daily Wire reports, the President also signed off on an executive order “instructing the secretaries of defense, homeland security, and veterans affairs to improve access to mental health care for veterans during the first year after their exit from the armed forces.”

Veterans Affairs Secretary David Shulkin had earlier stated that the high suicide rate among veterans just separated from the Armed Forces was his department’s top priority.
A recent study by the Naval Postgraduate School found that veterans who left the military 3 to 12 months beforehand were three times more likely to be victims of suicide than their active duty comrades.
“Roughly 260,000 service members leave the military each year,” the Daily Wire quotes the study as stating, and “roughly 18.5% of veterans returning from Iraq or Afghanistan suffer from post-traumatic stress disorder or depression.”
Trump has pushed for a solution to what he called a “very sad situation”.
“We want them to get the highest care and the care that they so richly deserve,” the President said after the executive order, “It’s something that is a top priority. … They get out of the military and they have nobody to talk to.”
On the job front for veterans, there was more good news from the White House.
HDT Trucking Info writes that President Trump signed into law ‘The Jobs for Our Heroes Act’, which amends the Obama’s 2015 ‘Fixing America’s Surface Transportation [FAST] Act’.
The amending law would grow the list of eligible veterans able to take DOT medical certification tests (via the VA), thus leading to a greater chance of a job. The law would also allow those veterans who drove commercial-type vehicles in the military to apply that experience in exempting themselves from “all or a portion of federal commercial motor vehicle driving test requirements.”
This is a great series of victories for veterans and to quote Weidman, “You ain’t seen nothing yet.”
Thank you @POTUS for your commitment to providing our veterans with the resources and support they need to successfully transition to civilian life – especially those suffering from the unseen wounds of war.https://t.co/g269XtxAuk
